Hello! I had VMWare Workstation 4 for some time and it worked preferctly for pre-Vista Windows versions. I recently decided to create a new machine and install Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit (final version) for testing. Everything was fine except for network and audio. I wasn't able to install either a Windows 2000 or a Windows XP driver, even in compatibility mode. I then downloaded from your site VMWare Wordkstation 5.5.1 I unistalled version 4 and installed version 5. Thankfully the Vista virtual machine opened and updated without any issue and I was able to start it. I uninstalled VMWare utilities on the guest and reinstalled them. As a result network was installed successfully but the problem with audio remained. I downloaded Windows XP drivers for Ensoniq ES1371 and tried to install them in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. After a long period there was a blue screen stating that there was a problem with the file sbpci.sys[/b] Trying again in Windows 2000 compatibility mode didn't help.

When trying to install the Vista drivers for the Audigy 2, the installer says that the card doesn't exist on the system whether I keep or remove the Ensoniq card in the device manager. Yup. I do have the audigy 2 specified as my audio card for the VM in the settings.

Hello! I had done so many changes in Windows Vista and I finally managed to lose the sound driver and I was unable to reinstall it. Windows Update reported the update is already installed and when I tried to uninstall or repair it, there wasn't on the update list! I was fed up and decided to delete the virtual machine. I also uninstalled VMWare Workstation 5 and installed 6 Beta to have as much Vista compatibility as possible. I created a new virtual machine, version 6 type, with 2 CPUs, 512MB RAM, 16GB IDE hard disk (primary master with type set to bus logic), a CD-ROM (secondary slave), 16MB graphics memory etc. I set the guest OS type to Windows Vista to make sure I will have the correct hardware and I will later install the right version of VMWare Tools. I then proceeded to boot the "Windows Vista" virtual machine and install Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. The installation completed without any issues. And I then had the network and sound problem again. I first enabled all Windows features, just in case I need one of these for networking. After the required restart, I setup my serial modem (automatically recognised as Rockwell 56K external and worked without issue) and I downloaded just the Ensonic ES1371/ES1373 driver from Windows Update. That's it! My sound problem is fixed! And this time I can play any sound without any problem! In VMWare Workstation 5 I had the device installed but there was no sound from the speakers!

BUG REPORT FOR DEVELOPERS: I had some windows open in Windows Vista and I didn't like to loase them. So I decided to Hibernate rather than shutdown the virtual machine. When I tried to resume the system VMWare Workstation crashed and returned to Home. So I had to start the virtual machine again, delete the hibernation data and load Windows Vista normally. I have a screenshot of the error message and I could send it to you, but I'm posting this from another computer. Let me know if you are interested. The error was referring to the audio device.

1) The game port (Unsupported Gameport for Creative) has the driver installed but it complains about not having enough resources to operate.
