In general, non-resident buyers in Spain can enjoy the same mortgage conditions as Spaniards, i.e. up to 80% cover in the case of a first home, and between 60 and 70% in the case of a second home.

Buying your home is usually the largest investment for most individuals. Even those who own several properties tend to invest cautiously in the real estate market. Real estate companies always use the services of lawyers before making an investment.

My husband is from London, England but is now a United States citizen and my son and I are both United State Citizens. We would like to move to the Costa Blanca area and I have been an estate agent in the United States for 15 years. How do I go about making myself legal for work as an estate agent? Also my husband does HVAC work for air conditioners and heating. Would we both be able to get legalized to work once we purchase a home?

Prices in Spain have been rising steadily since 2016, and although the COVID-19 outbreak has affected the market in 2020, official figures show average prices grew during the second quarter of the year. Sale prices increased by 2.1% year-on-year, with new-build prices rising by 4.2% and second-hand homes increasing by 1.8%.

Some overseas buyers purchase without a mortgage, but it is possible to obtain finance to buy a home. Spanish banks and international banks offer mortgages; some also offer specific deals for expats from certain countries.

Many British real estate websites also list Spanish properties, with some online portals listing thousands of options. However, these mostly focus on holiday homes. As a result, you may prefer to use a Spanish site instead.

For a long time, Spain has been popular with overseas buyers looking for holiday homes. On occasion, the large numbers of inexperienced foreign buyers have provided an opportunity for unscrupulous developers and estate agents to sell properties that are not legitimate.

Therefore, when taking into account the orientation of the home when choosing its location, we are taking into account factors as important as how the comfort will be within it throughout the year and the savings that will allow us in air conditioning and energy efficiency.

In homes facing east, the sun shines from the time it rises to noon, being a good option for most homes as there is no high energy expenditure. Heat accumulates during the day and is released during the evening.

Set on over 12 acres of land, the home was up for rent until recently, giving us a sneak peek inside. With seven bedrooms, four in the main home and two in the guest house, plus one in a single third building, there's also room for four staff to sleep. The star described the farm as "idyllic and very romantic" in an interview, perfect for inspiring her writing process.

Outside, the home boasts a heated pool surrounded by decking, a lake with boats, a sauna and a tennis court, as well as having perimeter surveillance to keep the star safe. The perfect spot for penning an album. Shakira is also a fan of keeping fit and could spend her days swimming and playing tennis at the farm.

Spread over 2,700 square feet, it was the perfect home for the star, who would now be spending much more time stateside working on becoming the next huge crossover Latin artist. With stunning detail inside, the arched doorway leads through to the main double-height living space with built-in shelving and a feature staircase leading to the upper floor.

In September 2001, not long after her first Miami Beach purchase, Shakira snapped up this stunning home in the same area. Spanning over 8,000 square feet, the prestigious home was bought by the singer for just shy of $3.4 million (2.8m). A slight upgrade from her first purchase!

The sleek kitchen boasts modern white cabinets and gleaming shiny steel appliances. The wide centre island is the perfect social space, while the floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the leafy patio. Elsewhere, the home boasts six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, which would be more than big enough for the singer and her two sons, should they choose to base themselves here.

Shakira met her ex-partner, Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, on the set of her Waka Waka video in 2010. In 2015 the couple splashed out a reported $5.9 million (4.9m) on a mansion in Barcelona. Spread over 1,500 square feet, the home boasts seven bedrooms, two kitchens, a swimming pool with a waterfall, a gym and a whole host of other amenities.

Located opposite a brand new five-star hotel, Shakira and her family had been frequent visitors to the island over the years and so it was no surprise when they decided to stump up the cash and buy their own piece of paradise here. As well as a quiet retreat, the new holiday home allowed them to enjoy two kilometres of beachfront, a spa and fine dining options in the swanky restaurants and bars nearby.

According to reports, the eight-bathroom, six-bedroom villa with stunning views is the idyllic holiday location. With a home cinema, private gym, jacuzzi, private pool and wine cellar, it's the perfect place to take a break.

The interior of the house has been set up with furniture from Milan, Israel and Paris. Messi reportedly spent Christmas 2021 at the Rosario home.
